Tangier to Asilah Transfer

A Tangier to Asilah transfer is a forty-minute run down the Atlantic coast on the A1 — forty-six kilometres, and the easiest journey we operate. Asilah’s whitewashed old town sits inside Portuguese ramparts built in 1471 and is small enough to walk in an hour.

Straight motorway south, past Gzenaya and the airport turn-off, with the Atlantic appearing on the right for the last few kilometres. There is nothing demanding about a Tangier to Asilah transfer in any season, which makes it a good first move for anyone landing tired.

What your Tangier to Asilah transfer includes

Every Tangier to Asilah transfer is private, air-conditioned, and driven by a licensed multilingual driver. Motorway tolls, fuel, parking and insurance are inside the quoted figure, and the price is per vehicle rather than per person.

Vehicles cannot enter the walled medina, but the drop-off at Bab el-Homar — the main gate — is a two-minute walk from almost anywhere inside. Asilah is flat and compact, which makes a Tangier to Asilah transfer one of the few arrivals in northern Morocco that is genuinely comfortable with heavy luggage or limited mobility.

Asilah airport transfer: shorter than you expect

An Asilah airport transfer is the detail most visitors miss. Ibn Battouta Airport is actually closer to Asilah than it is to central Tangier — thirty kilometres, about twenty-five minutes — so if you are staying in the old town there is no reason to route through the city at all.

We meet you inside the arrivals hall with a name sign and track your flight, exactly as on any other airport run. An Asilah airport transfer costs only a few euros more than the city version and saves you an hour of unnecessary driving in each direction.

Paradise Beach transfer: five kilometres further south

A Paradise Beach transfer continues past the town down a sand track through the dunes to a wide crescent of Atlantic sand with a handful of reed shacks grilling fish. Ordinary taxis routinely refuse that final track, which is the main reason the beach stays quiet outside July and August.

A Paradise Beach transfer works as a one-way drop or with the driver waiting for the afternoon. Bring cash — there is nothing resembling a card machine anywhere on that sand, and the shacks close between November and March.

Return journey

Asilah back to Tangier, the airport or Tanger Med runs at the same rates. Summer weekends on the A1 can be slow northbound in the evening, so allow an extra thirty minutes if you are catching a flight or a ferry.

A return Tangier to Asilah transfer booked as a pair costs less than two singles, and it removes the one genuine inconvenience of staying in the old town: there is no reliable taxi rank at the gate late in the evening, and walking out to the main road with luggage in the dark is nobody’s idea of a holiday.

The same Tangier to Asilah transfer also works as a waiting day trip. The driver stays with the vehicle for four or five hours while you walk the ramparts, eat at the harbour and sit on the beach, then brings you home. It costs less than a guided day and suits travellers who would rather explore without a commentary.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Asilah from Tangier?

Forty-six kilometres, roughly forty minutes by motorway.

Can you drive inside the walled town?

No, the medina is pedestrian. The gate drop-off is two minutes from almost anywhere inside it.

Is an Asilah airport transfer cheaper than going via Tangier?

It is shorter and only marginally more expensive than the city run, and it saves an hour of driving. If you are staying in Asilah, book it directly.

Can you reach Paradise Beach?

Yes. A Paradise Beach transfer covers the sand track that ordinary taxis refuse, five kilometres south of town.

Is Asilah a good base instead of Tangier?

For a quiet few days on the Atlantic, yes, and it is closer to the airport. For restaurants, nightlife and onward connections, Tangier wins comfortably.

Short, flat and free of hassle, a Tangier to Asilah transfer is the gentlest introduction to Morocco we run. For a guided day there, see the Asilah day trip from Tangier. For the sands south of town, the Paradise Beach day trip, and continuing down the coast, the Tangier to Rabat transfer. The town’s arts festival is covered by the Moroccan National Tourist Office, and its history on Wikipedia.
